Whole Armor of God
Ephesians 6:17 “and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.”
Armor is defensive in nature. The belt, breastplate, shoes, shield, and helmet help protect us from attacks. Only one offensive weapon is mentioned, and the is the Sword of the Spirit, which is also known as the Word of God. There are two actual Words of God. The first is Jesus Christ. John 1:1-5 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” The second Word is Holy Scripture, or the Holy Bible. Matthew 4:4 states, “It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The Bible documents the life and words of Jesus for future generations. Jesus, the Son of God, is truth, but He is also love, mercy, and grace.
As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are in a battle against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers of darkness, and spiritual forces of evil. This is a battle we cannot win on our own. We can, however, win this battle against darkness with Jesus, the Son of the Living God. The Old Testament predicted many aspects of the life of Jesus. This same Bible has also told us how this story ends. Jesus, and all who believe on His name, are victorious. That is something you can count on. Romans 8:31 states, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” The Bible clearly states that Jesus was there at the creation of our known universe. He died so that we might live. He was raised from the dead and rules at the right hand of God. He will come back to set things right. You just have to believe and let the Holy Spirit do the fighting for you.
