Five & Dime supports families in their journey to sustainability by offering a comprehensive financial literacy experience paired with a real-world shopping simulation. Each participating family is welcomed with a hot meal and receives \$20 in Mercy Bucks per family member. These can be used to purchase essential items, such as clothing, small appliances, toiletries, health and beauty products, and school supplies.
Mercy Bucks never expire, allowing families to save and plan for future needs. Returning participants are also taught the value of charitable giving as part of a well-rounded financial outlook.
The shared meal creates space for genuine connection, community needs assessment, and relationship building, which are vital for long-term transformation. Beyond helping families shop with dignity, the program also connects many participants to employment and housing opportunities, helping them take active steps toward lasting stability.
